โจ South Africa Dreams ๐ฟ๐ฆ
Wildlife, wine, culture & coastal adventures
Go on a Safari in South Africa
(Kruger / Sabi Sands, Big Five, immersive wildlife experience)
South Africa has been on my list for a long time. There’s so much to see โ cities, beaches, wine country โ but the thing Iโve always wanted to do most is go on a safari.
Iโm not someone whoโs into roughing it, but the idea of staying in a lodge, waking up early, and heading out into the bush to (hopefully) spot elephants, lions, maybe even a leopardโฆ thatโs something Iโd make the early wakeup call for. I’d love to visit Kruger National Park, or maybe a private reserve like Sabi Sands for something a bit more personal and off the main track.
Kruger is known for the Big Five โ lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo โ a term originally used by hunters, but now itโs what most travellers hope to see on safari. These animals all live in this area, along with giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, hippos, and more. Sightings arenโt guaranteed, but thatโs part of what makes it exciting.
Itโs the kind of experience that feels really far from my everyday life โ no Wi-Fi, no city noise, just open land and the chance to see animals doing their thing, in their own space.
But Iโd also want to recommend something a little more affordable that still feels special, like Nkambeni Safari Campโ highly rated, more budget-friendly, and located right inside Kruger National Park. Itโs a great option for travellers who want the experience without the splurge.

Slow Down & Take It All In: Cape Townโs Nature, History & Wine
(Table Mountain, Cape Peninsula drive, Boulders Beach, Stellenbosch, Robben Island, District Six)
From there, Iโd want to spend some time in Cape Town. Itโs one of those cities that seems to offer a bit of everything โ nature, history, food, and culture โ and I want to experience all sides of it, not just the pretty views.
Iโm planning to hike up Table Mountain and take in the view from the top โ the city, the ocean, and that dramatic coastline. Itโs a popular thing to do, but I get why. It looks like one of those places where you pause and really take in where you are.
While Iโm there, I also want to learn more about the cityโs past. A visit to Robben Island โ where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years โ feels like something I shouldnโt skip. And the District Six Museum, which tells the story of the communities who were forcibly removed during apartheid, is another stop Iโd like to make. These are the kinds of places that help you understand a city beyond the surface.
Iโd also like to drive down the Cape Peninsula, stop at Chapmanโs Peak Drive, check out Hout Bay, and visit the Cape of Good Hope. Iโve seen photos of the penguins at Boulders Beach, and honestly, I just want to see them waddling around in real life.
And then thereโs the wine region โ Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Iโd love to spend a couple of slow days there, tasting wine, trying local food, and just soaking it all in. It seems like the kind of place where you learn a lot just by being there โ how people live, what they grow, what matters to them.
For accommodations, Iโd recommend The Glen Boutique Hotel & Spa โ a fantastic 4-star boutique hotel in Sea Point. It offers luxurious rooms, an outdoor pool, a spa, and easy access to local attractions, making it perfect for a relaxing stay in a central location. If youโre looking for something a bit more affordable yet still in a great location and safe, The Hyde All-Suite Hotel is another great choice. Itโs a spacious, well-rated boutique hotel located in Sea Point, with easy access to local shops, restaurants, and beaches.

Explore the Layers of Johannesburg
(Constitution Hill, Apartheid Museum, The Playground in Braamfontein)
Iโd also want to spend a few days in Johannesburg. Itโs not always the city that gets the most hype, but it has so much history โ and Iโd want to take the time to understand it properly.
One of my first stops would be Constitution Hill, a former prison thatโs now home to South Africaโs Constitutional Court. It played a major role in the countryโs democratic transition, and visiting feels like a way to understand that shift up close.
Iโm planning to visit Robben Island and the District Six Museum while in Cape Town, but I know that Johannesburg is where a lot of that history really played out. Going to the Apartheid Museum feels like an important part of seeing the bigger picture.
If Iโm there on a Saturday, Iโd also check out The Playground in Braamfontein โ a weekend market filled with food, music, and design. It looks like a great place to see the creative side of the city and how things are changing.
Joburg isnโt polished, but it feels real โ and thatโs the version of it Iโd want to experience.
For accommodations, Iโd recommend The Maslow Hotel Sandton, a 4-star option offering modern amenities and a central location in the heart of Sandton, Johannesburg’s upscale business and entertainment district. Itโs conveniently located near attractions like Nelson Mandela Square and the Sandton Convention Centre. If youโre looking for something with a bit more of a boutique vibe, Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton is another great option. Situated in the lively Sandton area, it offers sleek, contemporary rooms with easy access to local restaurants, entertainment, and shopping.

โจ New Zealand Wanderlust ๐ณ๐ฟ
Mountains, hot springs, wine, and islands โ slow travel in a scenic dream
Take It Slow in New Zealandโs South Island
(Queenstown, Milford Sound, Lake Tekapo, Central Otago)
New Zealand feels like the kind of place where Iโd want to take my time. Itโs known for its dramatic scenery, but what draws me most is how much variety there is โ mountains, lakes, wine regions, small towns โ all wrapped in nature.
Iโd start in Queenstown. Iโm not into extreme sports, but Iโd love to walk along the lake, enjoy the views, and explore the town at a slower pace. From there, Iโd make my way to Milford Sound โ explore it by boat or kayak, and take in the waterfalls, mountains, and moody, dramatic views that make it one of the countryโs most iconic places.
For accommodations in Queenstown, Iโd recommend Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel โ a highly-rated 4-star hotel offering contemporary rooms with great views of the Remarkables and easy access to the townโs best spots. For something more budget-friendly, YHA Queenstown Lakefront is a 3-star option that provides comfortable accommodations with a more relaxed, casual vibe.

Lake Tekapo would be a must. Iโd want to soak in the hot springs and stay up late to stargaze โ it’s one of the best places in the world for night skies, and honestly, thatโs my kind of nightlife.
And of course, I couldnโt leave the South Island without spending time in Central Otago. A wine tasting here sounds like the perfect pause โ great wine, beautiful views, and nowhere to rush off to.
In Lake Tekapo, Iโd stay at Galaxy Boutique Hotel โ a sleek and stylish 4-star property with gorgeous lake views, modern rooms, and a peaceful vibe. Itโs perfect for winding down after a day at the hot springs or an evening of stargazing. Or, Peppers Bluewater Resort offers a tranquil stay with its prime location by Lake Tekapo and an ideal setting for enjoying the hot springs and the surrounding natural beauty.
In Central Otago, The Wanaka Hotel is a fantastic 3-star option, offering great value and a central location for exploring the region. Edgewater Hotel set right on the lakefront, this 4-star resort offers beautiful views, spa facilities, and an on-site restaurant. Itโs peaceful, upscale, and close enough to the action while still feeling like a retreat.
Relax, Soak & Sip in New Zealandโs North Island
(Rotorua, Hobbiton, Waiheke Island)
Then Iโd head to the North Island, where the landscape shifts again. Iโd visit Rotorua, which is known for its geothermal activity โ bubbling hot springs, steaming mud pools, and geysers that shoot into the air. Itโs the kind of place where the ground feels alive, and Iโd definitely want to soak in a natural hot pool at the end of the day.
Iโd also take a day trip to Hobbiton. Itโs touristy, yes โ but I still want to go. Thereโs something about walking around a place from the movies that feels kind of magical in a not-too-serious way.

And to wrap it all up, Iโd spend a few slow days on Waiheke Island โ close to Auckland, but with a totally different pace. Itโs known for its boutique wineries, beaches, and long lunches with a view. Iโd spend my time hopping between cellar doors, trying local olive oil and cheese, and just soaking it all in. Mudbrick Vineyard, Tantalus Estate, and Casita Miro are already on my list โ and Iโd definitely make time for seafood at The Oyster Inn. It sounds like the perfect place to reflect and indulge before heading home.
๐ Whoโs road-tripped through New Zealand? Whatโs your must-see stop?

โจ India Cravings ๐ถ๏ธ
Taste My Way Through Indiaโs Vindaloo & Biryani Region
(Goa & Hyderabad โ spice, seafood, and all the carbs)
One thing I know for sure: if I go to India, Iโm going to eat my way through it โ and I want to start in the regions known for vindaloo and biryani.
Iโd love to visit Goa for the blend of Indian and Portuguese influences, especially when it comes to the food. A proper Goan vindaloo โ full of spice and vinegar โ is at the top of my list. Iโd also want to try seafood curries, local breads, street food, and whatever sweet thing Iโm handed without fully knowing what it is. Iโm not going for the watered-down version โ I want to try the bold flavors and local spots.
Then Iโd head inland to Hyderabad, which is basically biryani royalty. Iโve heard that everyone has their favorite spot, and that no two biryanis are exactly the same โ which honestly just sounds like an invitation to eat my way through the city. Between the rich rice dishes, spicy kebabs, and snacks I probably canโt pronounce yet, Iโd be in food heaven.
Iโd also love to dive deeper โ exploring the vibrant street food scene, learning to cook traditional dishes, and embracing the variety of flavours. Iโm here for all of it.
๐ Whatโs the best dish youโve ever had while traveling? Share your foodie experience with me!

And while Iโm in Hyderabad, Iโd definitely want to wander through Laad Bazaar, the cityโs most famous market. Itโs packed with bangles, pearls, gold jewelry, and that old-city energy that feels like organized chaos in the best way. Iโm already picturing myself leaving with a little (or a lot of) sparkle โ because yes, I absolutely love gold.
And of course, Indiaโs colourful festivals, bustling markets, majestic palaces, and that wonderfully chaotic charm will make the experience even more unforgettable.

โจ Antarctica Pulls ๐ฆ๐ถ
See the Edge of the Earth in Antarctica
(Icebergs, penguins, whales, and the kind of silence you donโt forget)
I donโt like the cold, but I still want to go to Antarctica. Thereโs just something about it โ the vastness, the isolation, the fact that it doesnโt really care if youโre there or not. It feels like one of the last truly wild places left, and Iโd like to experience what that kind of stillness actually feels like.
Iโd go by expedition cruise, most likely leaving from Ushuaia, Argentina, and crossing the Drake Passage โ waves and all. Itโs supposed to be rough, but crossing it feels like part of the deal. Iโd want to step off the ship into a Zodiac (those small, inflatable expedition boats) and land on the shore โ to actually stand on Antarctic ground.

Thereโs not much โto doโ in Antarctica โ and thatโs kind of the point. Iโd go to see the icebergs, the penguin colonies, the elephant seals flopped out on the shore, and hopefully spot a few whales surfacing in that icy water. Itโs not the kind of trip you fill with activities โ itโs one you feel.
And yes โ if thereโs a polar plunge offered, Iโm doing it. Just a quick, freezing drop into the Southern Ocean, fully aware Iโll regret it until the exact second itโs over. But hey, if youโre going to go all the way to the bottom of the world, you might as well jump in.
I think part of me wants to know what happens when thereโs no Wi-Fi, no schedule, no distractions โ just raw nature and a whole lot of space. And maybe thatโs the real bucket list goal here.
โจ Japan Feels ๐ฏ๐ต
Wander Through Japanโs Seasons, Streets & Soup Bowls
(Cherry blossoms, temples, night markets, and ramen Iโll think about for years)
Japan has been calling me for a while โ not because itโs trendy or photogenic (though it is), but because it seems like a place that blends precision and chaos in the most fascinating way. One minute itโs peaceful temples and garden stillness, the next itโs neon streets and vending machines selling hot corn soup.
Iโd start with Tokyo, because how could I not? I want to eat ramen in tiny shops with fogged-up windows, wander through convenience stores like theyโre museums, and get lost in neighbourhoods that donโt make sense on a map but somehow feel designed for walking. I’d probably spend an embarrassing amount of time in cafรฉs and bakeries, and I wouldnโt apologize for it.
Then Iโd chase the cherry blossoms โ probably in Kyoto or Nara โ because that moment when the petals fall like snow? I want to see it for myself. Not for Instagram, but just to be there.

Iโd visit shrines, ride the train past green fields, and take things slow. Iโd also carve out time for the bamboo groves of Arashiyama, even if it means going early in the morning before the crowds. Something about walking through those tall, swaying stalks seems like the kind of memory that sticks with you.

If time allows, Iโd add something unexpected โ maybe Naoshima, the art island, or a visit to an onsen town to soak in hot springs and sit in a robe for half a day. It doesnโt need to be perfect. I just want to feel present, learn something, and leave full โ in every way.

Final Thoughts
There are still so many bucket list destinations I want to explore. I could easily turn this into a top 30 (or 50), complete with colour-coded tabs and a spreadsheet (donโt tempt me). But these are the travel experiences that have stuck with me โ the ones I save on Instagram, Google on a whim, or daydream about mid-email.
Theyโre not just places I want to see. Theyโre places I want to feel โ to taste, to photograph, to get completely lost in. I want to soak up the culture, meet people, and most importantly, eat everything that smells amazing.
If I get to check off every one of these dream destinations, incredible. If not, Iโm still glad I wrote them down โ because making your list is the first step to making it real.
