Nestled between the sea and the mountains, Nice gave us everything: cobblestoned charm, gelato under the palms, cliffside views, and a perfect launch pad for exploring the best of the Côte d’Azur.
From lazy afternoons on pebbled beaches and sunset apéritifs with sea views, to art museums, market strolls, and day trips to dreamy towns like Cannes, Antibes, and Monaco—this trip had a little bit of everything. And spoiler alert: I’d go back in a heartbeat.

Getting to Nice
If you’re flying into Nice, you’ll most likely arrive at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE), located just 7 km (about 4 miles) from the city centre. The airport is well-connected, offering multiple options to get to Old Town Nice:
- Taxi or Uber: Takes about 15–20 minutes, costing approximately €30–€40.
- Tram: The Line 2 Tram is a budget-friendly option, costing just €1.50 per person. It takes around 25–30 minutes to reach the city centre, making it a popular choice for travellers on a budget.
We, however, arrived in Nice via a scenic train from Saint-Raphaël to Nice after our fabulous stay in Saint-Tropez. Pro tip: grab a window seat! The journey along the Mediterranean coastline is just breathtaking. Watching the sea shimmer in the sunlight while passing by charming coastal towns felt like a dream sequence. The train ride itself was an experience — efficient, comfortable, and insanely picturesque.
Where We Stayed: Airbnb in Old Town
For a more local experience, we also stayed in a charming Airbnb in Vieux Nice. Its prime location was just a few minutes from the tram, making it super convenient for day trips. Having laundry facilities and a cute little kitchen was a nice change from constantly eating out, especially for a longer stay. Plus, staying in the Old Town meant being surrounded by lively, colorful architecture and the energy of daily life.
Exploring Nice
Nice is a city best explored slowly — on foot, with frequent snack stops and a curious spirit. One of the best things we did was simply wander without a plan. Every corner of Vieux Nice reveals something new: a tiny wine bar tucked into an alley, a pastel building glowing in golden-hour light, or a street performer playing accordion tunes that feel straight out of a French film.
In the early evenings, we’d grab a gelato from Fenocchio and stroll to the Place Masséna, where locals gathered and the city pulsed with a warm, magnetic energy. The blend of Italian and French influences is everywhere — in the architecture, the food, the language — and it gives Nice such a distinct, flavourful charm.
Don’t miss strolling along the Port of Nice, either. It’s less crowded than the Promenade but just as beautiful, lined with colourful boats and seafood restaurants. Perfect for a slower, relaxing walk with your bestie, reminiscing about the adventures of the day while sipping wine.

The ambiance here is pure magic—and if you’re a cheese lover, don’t miss a stop for a wine and cheese plate. We had an amazing one at Thread & Butter, right in the heart of the old town.
- Cours Saleya (Flower Market): A true sensory delight in the heart of Nice’s Old Town. Cours Saleya bursts to life each morning with rows of colourful flower stalls, fragrant herbs, ripe produce, and tempting treats like olives, spices, and fresh socca (a local chickpea pancake). Locals bustle through with woven baskets while vendors call out their specials for the day. Whether you’re there to grab a juicy peach, admire the blooms, or snap a postcard-perfect photo, this market captures the soul of the city. Go early to beat the crowds and soak up the freshest flavours and flowers. Bonus points if you snag a bouquet to glam up your Airbnb!

We spent a full day soaking in the city’s glitzy charm, and it delivered on every sun-drenched promise.
