From the bustling souks of Marrakech to the windswept beaches of Essaouira, the ancient alleyways of Fez to the relaxed coastal charm of Rabat, Morocco is colourful, vibrant, and full of contrasts — and your suitcase needs to be ready for it all (without feeling like you’re moving into a kasbah).
After travelling across Morocco during December, I’ve put together a smart, stylish packing guide based on what I wore, what I wish I packed, and must-haves that will serve you well any time of year.
☀️ What’s the Weather Like in Morocco?
The weather can vary depending on when and where you go:
- Spring (March–May): Warm, pleasant days and cooler evenings — one of the best times to visit!
- Summer (June–August): Hot and dry inland, milder along the coast
- Fall (September–November): Warm, comfortable, and beautiful
- Winter (December–February): Mild days, but chilly mornings and nights — especially in cities and the desert
👗 Overall, layers are your best friend. You’ll want breathable fabrics for daytime and cozy layers for mornings and nights.
✨ My December Experience: Quick Note
I visited Morocco in December and mostly wore pants, light sweaters, scarves, and closed-toe shoes.
It was sunny during the day but definitely chilly at night — especially in Fez and Essaouira.
👗 Moroccan Travel Style: What to Wear
Whether you’re visiting in spring, summer, or winter, Morocco’s travel style calls for modest, practical, and stylish outfits:
- Lightweight, loose-fitting pants — Perfect for exploring medinas
- Long-sleeve tops and light sweaters — Especially for evenings
- Scarves or shawls — Modesty at mosques, sun protection, and warmth
- Comfortable closed-toe shoes — Essential for walking on uneven streets
- Crossbody bag — Safer and hands-free
🌟 Pro Tip: Morocco is stylish — casual travellers still look polished. Flowy dresses, crisp pants, stylish sneakers, and scarves all fit in perfectly.

🧐 Final Packing Tips for Morocco
- Pack layers. Even if you’re visiting in summer, mornings and nights can surprise you.
- Respect modesty. Cover knees and shoulders, especially in more traditional cities.
- Closed-toe shoes > sandals. Medinas, desert dust, and rocky roads are no joke.
- Bring a scarf. So versatile — and you’ll use it way more than you expect.
- Light, crossbody bags are best. Leave bulky backpacks behind for city exploring.
