Essential Travel Tips for Australia
When to Visit Australia
Australia’s seasons are opposite to North America’s.
- Summer (Dec–Feb): Hot and busy — perfect for beaches, but prepare for crowds and high prices around Christmas and New Year’s.
- Spring (Sep–Nov) and Fall (Mar–May): Great weather and fewer tourists — ideal for exploring cities, beaches, and natural parks.
- Winter (Jun–Aug): Mild in the north (like Cairns and Darwin), cooler in the south (like Melbourne and Sydney).
Since we visited over December and January, we caught the Aussie summer — perfect for beach hopping, sailing, and long, sunny days.
How Many Days You Need
Australia is massive — like USA-sized massive.
If you only have 2–3 weeks, pick 2–3 regions max.
We had about four weeks and focused on the East Coast: Melbourne, Sydney, Byron Bay, Whitsundays, and Gold Coast — and it still felt like we barely scratched the surface!
Money Matters
- Currency: Australian Dollar (AUD).
- Tipping: Not mandatory but appreciated — rounding up or 10% at restaurants is generous.
- Cards: Credit cards are widely accepted everywhere, even for small purchases. Tap-to-pay is the norm.
Pro Tip: I highly recommend the Wise Travel Card. It saved us from crazy exchange fees, worked like a charm, and let us pay like locals.
Staying Connected
Stay Connected While You Travel with Airalo No more scrambling for SIM cards at the airport! With an Airalo eSIM, you can stay connected from the moment you land — easy, fast, and affordable. • New to Airalo?

Transportation
- In Cities: Public transportation in Melbourne and Sydney is fantastic — trams, buses, ferries, and trains.
- For Road Trips: Australia drives on the left! Renting a car was perfect for exploring the Great Ocean Road and Byron Bay region.
- Domestic Flights: Budget airlines like Jetstar and Virgin Australia are reliable and make it easy to hop between cities.
Packing Tips
- Lightweight, breathable clothing (it gets HOT in summer)
- Reef-safe sunscreen (the sun is intense!)
- Swimsuits, flip-flops, and a good hat
- Comfortable walking shoes
- A light sweater or jacket (for cooler nights, even in summer)
- Reef-safe sunscreen and biodegradable toiletries if you’re heading to the Great Barrier Reef
- A waterproof phone pouch (essential for beach and boat days!)

Safety Tips
- Beach Safety: Only swim between the red and yellow flags — strong currents (rips) can be dangerous.
- Wildlife: Kangaroos, koalas, snakes, and spiders — yep, they’re all real! But it’s rare to have issues if you stay aware and follow local advice.
- Sun Protection: “Slip, Slop, Slap” — slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat. The Aussie sun is no joke!
Melbourne: Laneways, Markets, and a Very Aussie Christmas
Our month-long adventure in Australia started in Melbourne — and it honestly couldn’t have been a better introduction. Melbourne has that perfect mix of city buzz and laid-back charm. It’s the kind of place where you can spend the morning exploring world-class museums, the afternoon getting lost in graffiti-covered laneways, and the evening sipping cocktails by the river. It felt stylish but relaxed, creative but grounded — a city that doesn’t take itself too seriously, even though it’s seriously cool.
We based ourselves in the Fitzroy/Carlton area, which ended up being the perfect choice. It was leafy, local, and packed with cozy cafes, funky bars, and boutique shops — all just a short tram ride (or a nice walk) from the CBD.

One of our favourite parts of being in Melbourne over the holidays was how lively it still felt. Queen Victoria Market was buzzing with energy, and setting up a sunny picnic at the Royal Botanical Gardens felt like such a fun, personal way to spend an afternoon. Plus, there was no shortage of things to see and do: from sunset penguin spotting at St Kilda to driving the legendary Great Ocean Road, every day felt full without being rushed.
Melbourne has a way of pulling you in with its easygoing vibe, incredible food scene, and endless little discoveries around every corner. It set the perfect tone for the rest of our Australian adventure.

Where We Stayed in Melbourne (7 Nights)
We stayed at a charming Airbnb in the Fitzroy/Carlton area for a little over a week, and it was one of our best decisions of the trip. The neighbourhood felt like the perfect balance — close enough to the CBD for easy sightseeing, but far enough away to enjoy a more local, laid-back vibe.
Our Airbnb was tucked away on a quiet residential street but still walking distance to cool cafes, leafy parks, and the Queen Victoria Market. It was cozy, super comfortable, and had everything we needed for a longer stay (including a kitchen to whip up our Christmas feast!).
If you’re heading to Melbourne, I can’t recommend staying in Fitzroy or Carlton enough. You’ll get to experience the city’s creative side while still being close to all the main attractions.
Things to Do in Melbourne
- Wander through Carlton Gardens and visit the Melbourne Museum: Start your day with a stroll through these beautifully manicured gardens — think towering trees, wide open lawns, and pretty fountains. The Melbourne Museum is right next door and makes a great stop if you want a break from the heat (plus, it’s genuinely interesting and well-done!).
- Explore Melbourne CBD and Federation Square: Melbourne’s city centre is vibrant and full of life. Federation Square is a major hub with modern architecture, art exhibitions, and outdoor events happening almost daily. We loved just wandering around, grabbing coffees, and people-watching.
- Shop at Queen Victoria Market: One of our absolute favourite experiences! This historic market is packed with everything from fresh seafood and produce to handmade goods and souvenirs. We picked up lamb, shrimp, cheeses, antipasto, and fresh cherries for a DIY Christmas dinner and the perfect picnic haul.

- Enjoy a picnic at the Royal Botanical Gardens: Easily one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots in the city. We set up a picnic under the trees, surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens and ponds. Bring a blanket, stock up at Queen Vic Market, and make an afternoon of it — it’s bliss.

- Walk through Flinders Street and the surrounding laneways: Melbourne’s laneway culture is iconic. Think colourful street art, hidden cafes, and cool little shops tucked down alleyways. We spent hours just getting “lost” and finding new corners filled with life and creativity.
- Watch the sunset and see the penguins at St Kilda Pier: This was one of the most magical experiences. We arrived at St Kilda just before sunset, watched the sky turn pink over the water, and then waited for the tiny fairy penguins to waddle ashore. It felt surreal to be so close to them in the wild.
📝 Tip: Signs around the pier remind visitors not to use flash photography, as it can disorient and harm the penguins. I made sure to turn off my flash — and still managed to capture a few special (and respectful!) moments.

- Rent a car and drive the Great Ocean Road: A must-do day trip! We drove the full stretch, stopping at:
- Bells Beach (famous surf spot)
- Eastern View (where the iconic Great Ocean Road arch is)
- Lorne (perfect for a coffee or ice cream stop)
- Kennett River (where we spotted wild koalas sleeping in eucalyptus trees)
- Apollo Bay (great seafood lunch!)
- Twelve Apostles (those dramatic limestone stacks you’ve seen in every Australia postcard — even more impressive in person)

- Port Campbell National Park (gorgeous coastal hikes and viewpoints)

- Join the Section 8 Orphan Xmas Party: If you’re in Melbourne over Christmas, this outdoor bar party is a must. It’s super casual, with DJs spinning all afternoon and travellers and locals mingling over beers and Christmas cheer. One of the most unique and unexpectedly fun Christmas Days we’ve ever had!
Where We Ate and Drank in Melbourne
- Shanghai Street: Tiny, casual, and packed with flavour. We had some of the best dumplings of our lives here — juicy, handmade, and so good we almost ordered seconds (and maybe thirds).

- Naked for Satan: This Fitzroy rooftop bar served up panoramic views of Melbourne along with killer cocktails. We went around sunset, and it honestly felt like one of those “how is this my life” moments.
- Riverland Bar: Hidden under the Princes Bridge along the Yarra River, this outdoor bar had such a relaxed vibe. We grabbed drinks, sat by the river, and just soaked in the city lights reflecting on the water.
- Flour Child St Kilda: Trendy spot near the beach serving up creative pizzas and cocktails. We went after sunset at the pier, and it was the perfect casual dinner spot — lively but not overwhelming.
- Apollo Bay Fishermen’s Co-op and Apollo Bay Seafood Cafe: After our big Great Ocean Road drive, nothing tasted better than ultra-fresh fish and chips. The Fishermen’s Co-op was simple, authentic, and right by the water — the perfect reward after a full day of adventuring.
- El Camino Cantina Fitzroy: A fun, loud Tex-Mex spot where the frozen margaritas are bigger than your head and the vibe feels like a non-stop party. Perfect for a casual night out.

Tips for Melbourne
- Stay in Fitzroy, Carlton, or the CBD: You’ll have the best food, bars, and parks right at your doorstep.
- Stock up at Queen Victoria Market: It’s not just a place to grab snacks — it’s full-on sensory overload in the best way. Perfect for a picnic haul or fresh ingredients if you’re cooking.
- Great Ocean Road: If you’re doing it in one day, start super early. It’s a long day but SO worth it. Stop often, bring water and snacks, and prepare to pull over for random koala sightings!
- Section 8’s Christmas Party: Total hidden gem for Christmas Day if you’re travelling. Casual, music-filled, and welcoming for travellers and locals alike.
- Penguins at St Kilda Pier: Get there before sunset to grab a good spot — and be patient. Seeing the little penguins waddle in from the sea is pure magic, even if you have to wait a bit!
Sydney: Harbours, Beaches, and New Year’s Magic
After an unforgettable week in Melbourne, we caught a short flight up to Sydney — just in time to ring in the New Year.
We stayed in the Darlinghurst/Kings Cross area, which turned out to be the perfect base for exploring the city. The neighbourhood had a fun, slightly gritty energy with tons of cafes, restaurants, and easy access to public transport. Best of all? From the balcony of our Airbnb, we could see the New Year’s Eve fireworks over Sydney Harbour. Watching the Sydney Harbour Bridge light up at midnight was honestly one of those pinch-me travel moments I’ll never forget.
Sydney felt different from Melbourne right away — a little flashier, a little sunnier, and totally centred around its jaw-dropping harbour. Every day felt full of that big, bright city energy, but still somehow easygoing in that perfect Aussie way.

Where We Stayed in Sydney (6 Nights)
Our Airbnb in Darlinghurst/Kings Cross hit the sweet spot between city access and a lively neighbourhood vibe. We could easily walk to Hyde Park, grab the ferry from Circular Quay, and find great local eats just steps from our door.
If you’re planning a New Year’s trip to Sydney, booking early is essential — spots with a fireworks view sell out fast. We felt so lucky to have a front-row seat to the show without fighting the crowds down at the harbour!
Things to Do in Sydney
- Stroll through Circular Quay and Sydney Cove: The beating heart of Sydney’s harbourfront. We spent hours wandering past street performers, historic buildings, and sparkling water views. It’s touristy but honestly, you can’t come to Sydney and skip it.
- Visit the Sydney Opera House: No matter how many photos you’ve seen, nothing beats seeing it up close. The white sails are even more striking in person, and we loved just walking around the base and admiring it from every angle.
- Take the ferry to Manly: The ferry ride itself is an experience, with epic views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Once in Manly, we walked to Shelly Beach (a local favourite) and Fairlight Beach. Both had a relaxed, neighbourhood feel compared to busier Bondi.

- Relax at Hyde Park: A lovely green space right in the middle of the city. Great for a midday break or a casual picnic.
- Visit the ANZAC Memorial: Located in Hyde Park, this moving tribute to Australian soldiers is beautifully done and worth taking time to appreciate.
- Explore The Rocks: This historic neighbourhood near Circular Quay is full of cobblestone streets, old pubs, weekend markets, and lots of history. It’s such a great spot for a lazy afternoon wander (with a coffee or a gelato in hand).
- Browse The Rocks Market: Held on weekends, this lively outdoor market in The Rocks has everything from handmade crafts and art to gourmet food stalls. It’s a great place to pick up unique souvenirs or just soak up the festive atmosphere.
- Walk around Sydney CBD: Between the shops, parks, and hidden laneways, Sydney’s downtown is lively without feeling overwhelming. We loved exploring on foot and stumbling onto cool spots we didn’t plan for.
- Spend a day at Bondi Beach: Yes, it’s famous and yes, it’s totally worth it. The beach is beautiful, the people-watching is top-notch, and if you’re feeling adventurous, the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk offers unreal ocean views.

Where We Ate and Drank in Sydney
- The Squire’s Landing: Perfect spot near Circular Quay for harbour views, craft beer, and a snack.

- The Grounds of the City: Gorgeous, old-world-style cafe in the CBD with amazing coffee, brunch, and interiors straight out of a movie set.
- Opera Bar: Right by the Opera House — pricey but worth it for a sunset drink with THAT view.
- Malabar South Indian Restaurant: Hands down some of the best Indian food we’ve had — rich flavours, huge portions, and a cozy setting.
- Bills Darlinghurst: Famous for their ricotta hotcakes and chill Aussie brunch vibes.
- Buffalo Dining Club: A cozy, rustic Italian spot in Darlinghurst known for incredible handmade pasta and the signature “cheese wheel” experience. It’s casual, lively, and absolutely delicious — a perfect spot for a laid-back, memorable meal.
Tips for Sydney
- Book early for NYE: Whether it’s a dinner, harbour cruise, or just accommodation with a view, things sell out fast.
- Get an Opal Card: Sydney’s public transport system (ferries, trains, buses) is super easy to use and having an Opal Card makes it seamless.
- Use the ferries: They’re affordable, easy, and give you some of the best views of the city.
- Visit Bondi early: It gets packed. Go early to snag a good beach spot or start the coastal walk before the crowds.
- Walk The Rocks at sunset: The old stone streets and harbour views glow beautifully in the evening light.
- Be prepared for heat: Sydney’s summer can be intense — sunscreen, a hat, and lots of water are musts.
Byron Bay: Beaches, Beats, and Ultimate Chill
After an energetic New Year’s in Sydney, we hopped on a quick flight to Ballina Byron Gateway Airport — and just like that, we were in Byron Bay. From the moment we arrived, we knew: this was our kind of place. Byron has that magical, easygoing energy where time slows down, the beaches stretch forever, and you start scheming ways to never leave.
Byron Bay felt like a perfect mix of surfer town, hippie haven, and low-key luxe — and honestly, it stole a big piece of our hearts.

Where We Stayed in Byron Bay (7 Nights)
We stayed at Beaches Apartments Byron Bay, a beautiful little spot just a short walk from both the beach and the town centre. The location couldn’t have been better — close enough to everything, but quiet enough that we felt like we had our own little oasis. Our apartment was spacious, clean, and had a fully equipped kitchen — perfect for relaxing in between beach sessions and exploring the town.

Things to Do in Byron Bay
- Falls Music Festival: We were lucky enough to be in Byron for Falls Festival — a multi-day music festival full of live bands, DJs, and that unbeatable summer festival energy. Dancing barefoot in the grass with the ocean breeze nearby? Absolute bliss.
- Cape Byron State Conservation Area: Don’t leave Byron without doing the Cape Byron walking track! It’s a stunning coastal hike that takes you through rainforest, along clifftops, and up to the famous Cape Byron Lighthouse — the easternmost point of mainland Australia. We did it in the morning and the views were unforgettable.

- Surfing: You can’t come to Byron and not surf (or at least try!). We rented boards and gave it a go — and while we weren’t exactly pros, it was so much fun being out in those warm waves.
- Byron Bay Markets: The Byron Markets are iconic — filled with handmade jewellery, local art, fresh food, live music, and all the boho vibes you’d expect. A great place to pick up souvenirs or just soak up the laid-back atmosphere.
- Beach Day: Byron’s beaches are some of the most beautiful in Australia — think golden sand, rolling waves, and laid-back vibes. We spent full afternoons just lounging at Main Beach, cooling off in the ocean, and soaking up that endless Aussie sun. Pure bliss and the perfect way to recharge between adventures.
Where We Ate and Drank in Byron Bay
- Fishheads Restaurant & Takeaway: Classic Aussie fish and chips, right by the beach. We grabbed takeaway and ate on the sand with the waves crashing nearby. The fish was flaky and fresh, the chips crispy and golden — simple, delicious, and exactly what you want after a day in the sun.
- The Balcony Bar & Oyster Co.: Set above the main street, this spot was perfect for sunset cocktails and oysters. The relaxed, slightly glamorous atmosphere made it easy to linger for hours, and the people-watching from the balcony was top-notch.
- Hummingbird Bistro Byron Bay: A cozy, casual gem tucked away from the main hustle. We loved starting our mornings here with rich coffee, hearty breakfasts, and a friendly vibe that made it feel like a local favourite.
- Bang Bang Byron Bay: Sleek, lively, and serving up some of the best Asian-fusion dishes we had in Australia. We especially loved the crispy pork belly and the creative cocktails — it’s the kind of place you go for dinner and end up staying for hours.

- Chihuahua Taqueria: Tiny, colourful, and absolutely packed with flavour. Their tacos were fresh, vibrant, and seriously addictive. Perfect for a laid-back, fun night without any fuss.
- Loft Byron Bay: A stylish, buzzy spot with great cocktails, share plates, and a chill, beachy vibe. We loved kicking off our evenings here with a happy hour drink and some small bites before heading out into the Byron nightlife.

Tips for Byron Bay
- Book accommodation early: Byron gets packed, especially around the holidays.
- Walk everywhere: The town is super walkable, and honestly, half the fun is strolling between beaches, cafes, and shops.
- Catch sunrise or sunset at the lighthouse: It’s popular for a reason — the light and the views are pure magic.
- Try surfing even if you’re a beginner: Byron’s gentle beach breaks are perfect for newbies.
- Plan some chill days: It’s easy to pack your schedule, but the best way to do Byron is to leave time to just wander, nap, and explore.
Whitsundays: Sailing, Snorkelling, and Island Bliss
Leaving Byron Bay wasn’t easy, but the Whitsundays were calling. We hired a private driver to take us from Byron Bay to Brisbane Airport (BNE), then caught a flight to Whitsunday Coast Airport (PPP). As soon as we landed, it felt like we’d stepped into a postcard — turquoise waters, palm trees, and pure island magic.
Where We Stayed in the Whitsundays (4 Nights)
We spent two nights at the Airlie Beach Hotel — once before and once after our sailing adventure. It was perfectly located right by the water, walking distance to restaurants, shops, and the ferry terminal. The rooms were modern, clean, and comfortable — ideal for a quick stopover.
For the real highlight, we spent two nights aboard the Entice Catamaran with Sailing Whitsundays from January 9-11th. We had a private double room with an ensuite bathroom, and the whole setup felt luxurious but relaxed. Sailing through the Whitsunday Islands, sleeping under the stars, and waking up to sparkling blue waters was pure magic.

Things to Do in the Whitsundays
- Hill Inlet Lookout & Whitehaven Beach: We hiked up to Hill Inlet Lookout, following a scenic trail through tropical bushland before reaching one of the most iconic views in Australia. The swirling white sands and turquoise waters were even more breathtaking than the photos. After taking it all in (and snapping a million pictures), we headed down to Whitehaven Beach, where we spent hours lounging on the impossibly soft, pure silica sand, swimming in the crystal-clear shallows, and soaking up the sun. It felt like being on another planet — one made entirely of beauty.

- Snorkelling Fringing Reefs: Our snorkelling adventures took us to some of the most vibrant fringing reefs around the Whitsunday Islands. Swimming among colourful corals, clownfish, giant clams, and schools of tropical fish was surreal. The visibility was incredible — the underwater world felt close enough to touch, and the water was so warm and clear it was like gliding through a dream.
- Paddleboarding & Kayaking: Entice had paddleboards and kayaks available for guests, and we took full advantage. We spent our afternoons paddling through sheltered coves and across calm, glassy waters. It was peaceful, almost meditative — just the sound of the water, the occasional splash of a turtle surfacing nearby, and endless blue all around. (Pro tip: be ready for a few unintentional, but hilarious, wipeouts!)
- Whitsunday Island Hopping: Sailing between the Whitsunday Islands was an adventure in itself. Every island had its own character — from secluded sandy bays where we anchored for lunch, to lush rainforests that spilled down to the water’s edge. Dropping anchor and swimming ashore to hidden beaches felt like something out of a movie. It was pure, carefree island time at its best.
Where We Ate and Drank in Airlie Beach
- La Tabella Trattoria: A cozy, elegant spot right on the Airlie Beach esplanade. We tucked into fresh, handmade pasta, buttery seafood dishes, and a rich tiramisu that we’re still dreaming about. Sitting outside with a bottle of wine and ocean views made it one of our favourite dinners of the trip.

- Little Vegas Burger & Bar: This funky, vibrant spot served up some of the best burgers we had in Australia. Big portions, creative toppings, and a super fun atmosphere made it the perfect place to celebrate after our sailing trip.
- Anchor Bar: Perched high on a hill with panoramic views over Airlie Beach and the Coral Sea, Anchor Bar was our go-to for chill rooftop vibes. Their cocktails were fantastic (try the passionfruit mojito!) and the tapas menu was perfect for sharing while watching the sunset over the water.
Tips for the Whitsundays
- Pack light for sailing: Soft bags only — no hard suitcases!
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen: Protect that incredible marine life.
- Motion sickness bands: The sailing is usually smooth, but it’s smart to come prepared.
- Book early: Especially during summer — tours and accommodation fill up fast.
- Don’t skip the lookout: Hill Inlet is 100% worth the short hike — it’s unforgettable.
Surfers Paradise: Sun, Surf, and Skyrises
After wrapping up our sailing adventures in the Whitsundays, we flew from Whitsunday Coast Airport (PPP) to Gold Coast Airport (OOL) — and found ourselves back in the buzz of city life, but with a serious beach twist. Surfers Paradise was our final stop in Australia, and it turned out to be the perfect way to end the trip: vibrant, sun-soaked, and full of energy.
Surfers Paradise is where gleaming high-rises meet golden beaches, and the vibe is pure holiday energy. It’s lively, a little flashy, super easygoing, and packed with things to do — whether you’re after nature, nightlife, or just endless walks along the oceanfront.
Where We Stayed in Surfers Paradise (3 Nights)
We stayed at Mantra on View Surfers Paradise, right in the heart of it all. Our room had sweeping views over the city and the beach, and the location couldn’t have been better — steps from the boardwalk, shops, restaurants, and the surf. It was the perfect home base for soaking up everything the Gold Coast had to offer.
Things to Do in Surfers Paradise
- Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary: One of our favourite experiences! We spent a full afternoon wandering through lush grounds, hand-feeding kangaroos, spotting sleepy koalas, and watching colourful lorikeets land on our shoulders. It’s a beautiful, hands-on way to meet Australia’s native wildlife. There’s also a mini-train that loops through the sanctuary, and interactive wildlife shows throughout the day.

- Stroll the Surfers Paradise Boardwalk: Mornings and evenings were made for walks along this lively beachfront stretch. The ocean on one side, cafes and shops on the other — plus plenty of spots to grab a coffee or a smoothie and just people-watch. At night, the boardwalk lights up with performers, markets, and live music — a whole new vibe.
- Catch the Sunset at SkyPoint Observation Deck: For unbeatable views over the Gold Coast, we headed up to SkyPoint in the Q1 Building — the tallest residential tower in Australia. Watching the sunset from 230 metres above sea level was pure magic, and seeing the lights twinkle over the coastline after dark was unforgettable.
- Relax at Surfers Paradise Beach: One of the most iconic beaches in Australia! We loved lazy beach days here — swimming, sunbathing, and just enjoying the endless stretches of soft sand and blue water. The surf lifesaving flags mark safe swimming zones, and there are plenty of beachfront cafes just steps away when you need a break.

- Browse the Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets: On Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday evenings, the beachfront transforms into a lively market full of local art, handmade jewellery, souvenirs, and street food. It’s a great spot to pick up gifts or just enjoy a casual stroll under the stars.
- Take a Day Trip to Burleigh Heads: Just a short drive or tram ride away, Burleigh Heads offers a more laid-back beach vibe, amazing surf, and a scenic coastal walking track through the national park with panoramic ocean views. It’s a great mini escape from the high-energy buzz of Surfers.
Where We Ate and Drank in Surfers Paradise
- Shiraz Persian Restaurant + Bar: Some of the best Persian food we’ve ever had. From the juicy kebabs to the fluffy saffron rice, everything was packed with flavour — plus, the service was incredibly warm and welcoming.
- Alfresco Italian Restaurant: A casual, family-run spot with hearty, comforting Italian classics. Their seafood pasta and tiramisu were standouts.
- Longboards Laidback Eatery & Bar: Perfect for burgers, beers, and beach views. Super relaxed vibe, generous portions, and a killer “Big Wave Burger” challenge if you’re feeling brave.
- Edgewater Dining & Lounge Bar: If you’re looking for a more upscale dinner with waterfront views, Edgewater nails it — fresh seafood, great cocktails, and a chic, elegant atmosphere ideal for a special night out.
- BMD Northcliffe Surf Club: A classic Aussie surf club experience. Great affordable meals, ice-cold drinks, and unbeatable beachside views — a favourite with both locals and visitors.
Tips for Surfers Paradise
- Use public transport: The G:link tram makes it super easy to get around the Gold Coast.
- Book ahead for SkyPoint at sunset: It gets busy, especially in high season.
- Watch your belongings on the beach: As beautiful as it is, it’s a busy area — better safe than sorry.
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen: You’ll spend lots of time in the sun — and protecting the environment is key.
- Get up early for a quieter beach vibe: Mornings are magical before the crowds roll in.

Final Thoughts: One Month in Australia
After one month in Australia — filled with beaches, vibrant cities, sailing adventures, wildlife encounters, and more flat whites than we can count — it’s safe to say: this country completely stole our hearts.
Each place we visited on our Australia travel itinerary felt totally unique — from the creative buzz of Melbourne and the iconic harbour views of Sydney, to the laid-back magic of Byron Bay, the tropical paradise of the Whitsundays, and the sunny energy of Surfers Paradise along the East Coast of Australia.
We packed so much into our Australia trip, but it never felt rushed — just full of unforgettable moments. Sunsets over the ocean, road trips along stunning coastlines, snorkelling coral reefs, laughing over long, lazy dinners — these are the memories we’ll hold onto forever.
If you’re dreaming about your own Australian adventure, our biggest tip is: just go. Give yourself time, leave room for spontaneity, and get ready for one incredible ride across some of the best places to visit in Australia.
Australia is massive, beautiful, and bursting with life — and once it gets under your skin, it’s pretty hard to shake.
We’re already dreaming about going back someday…
Until then, thanks for coming along for the ride. 🌏❤️
