After a luxurious escape in Saint-Tropez—complete with rosé lunches, sun-drenched beach clubs, and a healthy dose of glamour—we followed the glittering coastline to the sun-soaked city of Nice, our home base for the next five days of Mediterranean magic. Nestled between the sea and the mountains, Nice gave us everything: cobblestoned charm, gelato under the palms, cliffside views, and a perfect launch pad for exploring the best of the Côte d’Azur.
From lazy afternoons on pebbled beaches and sunset apéritifs with sea views, to art museums, market strolls, and day trips to dreamy towns like Cannes, Antibes, and Monaco—this trip had a little bit of everything. And spoiler alert: I’d go back in a heartbeat.
Whether you’re craving culture, beachside lounging, or picture-perfect coastal adventures, this guide has you covered.
So grab your sunhat, slip on your sandals, and let’s dive into five unforgettable days on the French Riviera—because glamour and gelato wait for no one.

Getting to Nice
If you’re flying into Nice, you’ll most likely arrive at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE), located just 7 km (about 4 miles) from the city centre. The airport is well-connected, offering multiple options to get to Old Town Nice:
- Taxi or Uber: Takes about 15–20 minutes, costing approximately €30–€40.
- Tram: The Line 2 Tram is a budget-friendly option, costing just €1.50 per person. It takes around 25–30 minutes to reach the city centre, making it a popular choice for travellers on a budget.
We, however, arrived in Nice via a scenic train from Saint-Raphaël to Nice after our fabulous stay in Saint-Tropez. Pro tip: grab a window seat! The journey along the Mediterranean coastline is just breathtaking. Watching the sea shimmer in the sunlight while passing by charming coastal towns felt like a dream sequence. The train ride itself was an experience — efficient, comfortable, and insanely picturesque.
Where We Stayed: Airbnb in Old Town
For a more local experience, we also stayed in a charming Airbnb in Vieux Nice. Its prime location was just a few minutes from the tram, making it super convenient for day trips. Having laundry facilities and a cute little kitchen was a nice change from constantly eating out, especially for a longer stay. Plus, staying in the Old Town meant being surrounded by lively, colorful architecture and the energy of daily life.
Exploring Nice
Nice is a city best explored slowly — on foot, with frequent snack stops and a curious spirit. One of the best things we did was simply wander without a plan. Every corner of Vieux Nice reveals something new: a tiny wine bar tucked into an alley, a pastel building glowing in golden-hour light, or a street performer playing accordion tunes that feel straight out of a French film.
In the early evenings, we’d grab a gelato from Fenocchio and stroll to the Place Masséna, where locals gathered and the city pulsed with a warm, magnetic energy. The blend of Italian and French influences is everywhere — in the architecture, the food, the language — and it gives Nice such a distinct, flavourful charm.
Don’t miss strolling along the Port of Nice, either. It’s less crowded than the Promenade but just as beautiful, lined with colourful boats and seafood restaurants. Perfect for a slower, relaxing walk with your bestie, reminiscing about the adventures of the day while sipping wine.
Things to Do in Nice
- Promenade des Anglais: Take a leisurely stroll along this iconic seaside promenade. The views of the Mediterranean are to die for, especially during sunrise or sunset. Bonus: Rent a bike for a more dynamic experience!
- Old Town (Vieux Nice): Wander through narrow, pastel-coloured streets, grab a gelato (or two), and pop into bustling markets and charming shops. The ambiance here is pure magic—and if you’re a cheese lover, don’t miss a stop for a wine and cheese plate. We had an amazing one at Thread & Butter, right in the heart of the old town.

- Cours Saleya (Flower Market): A true sensory delight in the heart of Nice’s Old Town. Cours Saleya bursts to life each morning with rows of colourful flower stalls, fragrant herbs, ripe produce, and tempting treats like olives, spices, and fresh socca (a local chickpea pancake). Locals bustle through with woven baskets while vendors call out their specials for the day. Whether you’re there to grab a juicy peach, admire the blooms, or snap a postcard-perfect photo, this market captures the soul of the city. Go early to beat the crowds and soak up the freshest flavours and flowers. Bonus points if you snag a bouquet to glam up your Airbnb!

- Castle Hill (Colline du Château): Hike up for panoramic views of the city and the sea. It’s a mild hike that rewards you with stunning vistas and a refreshing breeze.
- Shopping on Rue de la Liberté & Jean Médecin: Fashionistas, this is your moment! From luxury brands to local boutiques, there’s something for everyone.
- Rent a Beach Lounger: Nice’s beaches are rocky, so splurge on a lounger at a beach club for maximum comfort. The beachside restaurants and cocktails are a vibe you don’t want to miss.
Where to Eat in Nice
Nice has a vibrant culinary scene that blends French sophistication with Mediterranean freshness. We absolutely indulged ourselves at the following spots:
- Chez Acchiardo: A family-owned gem serving authentic Niçoise dishes. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, with locals and tourists alike enjoying hearty, delicious meals. The daube (beef stew) is a must-try!
- Bistrot d’Antoine: My absolute favorite. It’s not about fancy presentation here; it’s about flavour. Their fresh seafood dishes are extraordinary, and the rustic charm of the bistro makes every bite feel special.
- Comptoir du Marché: Hidden away in the Old Town, this cozy spot dishes out seasonal, locally-sourced meals. The daily specials are always worth checking out.
- Babbo Mio: For when you’re craving Italian fare. This charming restaurant offers comforting pasta dishes with authentic flavours and a warm atmosphere. Their truffle pasta had me swooning.
- Fenocchio: No trip to Nice is complete without gelato from Fenocchio. With dozens of flavours ranging from lavender to tiramisu, it’s heaven for ice cream lovers.
Tips for Visiting Nice
Visiting Nice and the French Riviera can be a breeze if you keep a few helpful tips in mind. Here’s what we learned from our dreamy experience:
- Bring Water Shoes: Nice’s beaches may be beautiful, but those pebbles? Not so kind to your feet. Water shoes made a world of difference when it came to getting in and out of the sea without doing an accidental crab-dance.
- Eat All the Ice Cream & Crêpes: It’s not just a suggestion — it’s a way of life here. Gelato from Fenocchio became our evening ritual, and every crepe stand we passed called our names. Don’t resist. You’re on vacation.

- Plan Your Day Trips Early: We loved how easy it was to hop on a train and head to another gorgeous coastal town — but so did everyone else. Trains can fill up, especially midday or in high season. Booking ahead saved us time and stress.
- Book Restaurants in Advance: Especially in Old Town, popular restaurants get packed. A few times we saw people turned away — meanwhile, we were sipping wine with our reservations feeling very smug (and hungry no more).
- Be Ready to Walk: Nice and the surrounding towns are best explored on foot. Between strolling the promenade, winding through old towns, and climbing up Castle Hill, you’ll get those steps in. Bring comfy shoes that can handle cobblestones and steep alleys.
- Use Uber Wisely: Uber is great for getting to places like Monaco, but it can’t pick up inside the principality. Know the nearby pickup points, or be ready to take a taxi or walk a bit back into France. Trust us — figuring this out before cocktail hour helps.

Cannes is synonymous with glamour and elegance, but there’s so much more to it than just its famous film festival.
We spent a full day soaking in the city’s glitzy charm, and it delivered on every sun-drenched promise. Think wide promenades lined with swaying palms, high-end boutiques, and yachts that could double as small countries. But beyond the sparkle, Cannes has a relaxed, breezy vibe that invites you to slow down and just enjoy. From strolling La Croisette to exploring the old town of Le Suquet or lounging by the sea with a crisp glass of rosé, Cannes effortlessly blends movie-star dazzle with Riviera ease.

Day Trip to Monaco
Monaco is the epitome of luxury and glamour. Just a short train or Uber ride from Nice, this tiny principality feels like a world of its own—where every corner drips with opulence and every turn brings a view that could be a movie set. With its grand Belle Époque architecture, sleek yachts bobbing in the marina, and sports cars purring past the Monte Carlo Casino, Monaco doesn’t just whisper luxury—it shouts it (politely, in French). But beyond the glitz, there’s a fascinating contrast: peaceful gardens tucked away from the buzz, narrow lanes in the old town, and seaside paths where the Mediterranean sparkles in the sun. Even if you’re just here for the day, you’ll leave feeling like royalty—if only temporarily.
Things To Do In Monaco
- Casino Square: As we strolled through the opulent Casino Square, it felt like we’d stepped into a James Bond movie. The Monte Carlo Casino is the jewel in Monaco’s crown, but even admiring it from the outside feels iconic.

- Musée Océanographique: Perched dramatically on a cliffside, this world-renowned oceanographic museum is worth visiting even if you’re not into marine life. The building itself is breathtaking, and the panoramic views of the sea are worth the ticket alone. 👉 Book tickets to the Musée Océanographique here
- Prince’s Palace of Monaco: Head up to the palace square to watch the Changing of the Guard at noon. The views from here are stunning, and it’s fascinating to catch a glimpse of royal life.
- Larvotto Beach: Recently renovated and now offering free changing rooms and bathrooms, this popular spot is perfect for a beach break. You can rent chairs for about €36 per couple or opt to relax on the public beach. We grabbed an Aperol Spritz (€15) at a nearby bar — the perfect way to cool off.
- Buddha-Bar Monte-Carlo: Our day ended with a luxurious evening at this vibrant lounge, featuring killer views, upscale vibes, and fantastic cocktails. An unforgettable experience.
Where to Eat in Monaco
- Cipriani Monte-Carlo: This ultra-chic spot is where elegance meets indulgence—think old-school Italian glamour with a Riviera twist. The crowd? A mix of stylish locals, yacht owners, and the occasional celeb sighting, making it prime people-watching territory. Sip a spritz while you take it all in, then dive into standout dishes like veal farfalle with lemon sauce or melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu beef. And whatever you do, do not skip the chocolate cake—it’s rich, glossy, and absolutely worth every luxurious bite. Even if you’re not staying the night in Monaco, a meal here makes you feel like you are.

- La Môme Monte-Carlo: A stylish terrace and refined dishes make this a wonderful spot for dinner or evening drinks.
- La Table d’Elise: Casual yet elegant French cuisine that’s perfect for a laid-back lunch or dinner.
- Maya Mia: A cozy Italian trattoria in the heart of Monaco, serving up fresh pasta, wood-fired pizza, and classic antipasti. Great for a relaxed, delicious meal—bonus points for the charming vibe and gluten-free options. Reservations recommended!
👗 Tips for Visiting Monaco
- Uber Accessibility: While Uber can drop you off in Monaco, they cannot pick you up. To get an Uber back to Nice, walk to one of the nearby pickup zones such as Beausoleil, Cap d’Ail, or Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.
- Dress to Impress: Monaco is all about glamour. Even if you’re just sightseeing, you’ll feel more at home if you’re dressed nicely.
- Plan Your Itinerary: The principality is tiny, so it’s easy to pack a lot into a single day. But if you want to explore more deeply, consider dedicating extra time to wander and soak in the luxury.
Day Trip to Antibes
Antibes is a dreamy blend of old-world charm and quiet coastal elegance.
While nearby Cannes and Monaco revel in the spotlight, Antibes hums with a softer, slower kind of magic. Its beauty is the kind that sneaks up on you—the golden light hitting the sea walls just right, the scent of salt and citrus in the air, the casual clink of wine glasses from a tucked-away terrace. It’s the kind of place where you could spend hours simply strolling and taking it all in, with the Mediterranean on one side and sun-washed stone buildings on the other. Luxe without the loudness, Antibes has an understated charm that makes you want to stay a little longer—and maybe Google real estate, just out of curiosity.
Things To Do In Antibes
- Picasso Museum (Musée Picasso): Housed in the Grimaldi Castle, this museum boasts over 245 works by Picasso. But it’s not just about the art — the views of the Mediterranean from the castle are incredible. Go early to avoid crowds!

- Old Town + Marché Provençal: Wandering through the cobbled streets filled with charming shops, cafes, and a lively market was like stepping into a postcard. It’s easy to spend hours just soaking up the atmosphere.
- Quai des Milliardaires: Where billionaires’ yachts dock. Even if you’re not into boats, it’s worth a wander just to take in the sheer extravagance.
- Cap d’Antibes: This stunning peninsula is home to pine-covered hills, hidden villas, and dramatic rocky coastlines. We found a few quiet spots to relax by the water, which felt like our own little paradise.
- Plage de la Salis: Unlike Nice’s rocky beaches, Antibes offers sandy stretches that are perfect for sunbathing and swimming.

Where to Eat in Antibes
- La Taille de Guêpe: Creative dishes served with elegance. The flower-based menu was particularly interesting and delicious.
- Le Fricot: A cute, cozy spot serving classic French dishes. Absolutely delightful.
- Cap Riviera: This seafront gem served up fresh Mediterranean dishes with a view that totally stole the show. We loved the relaxed vibe, attentive service, and beautifully plated seafood—perfect for a sunset dinner by the water.
- La Cafetière Fêlée: This cozy little spot blew us away with its French-Asian fusion menu. The dishes were creative, beautifully plated, and full of unexpected flavor combos that just worked. A total gem tucked into the quieter side of Old Antibes—definitely make a reservation!
👟 Tips for Visiting Antibes
- Comfy Shoes Are Essential: The charming cobblestone streets can be rough on your feet. Wear comfortable shoes to fully enjoy your strolls.
- Arrive Early at the Picasso Museum: This place can get packed quickly. Early mornings are your best bet for a peaceful experience.
- Explore Cap d’Antibes: It’s rocky, but the views and crystal-clear water make it all worth it.
- Bring Cash: Some vendors at Marché Provençal prefer cash, especially for smaller purchases.

Other Day Trips We Wish We Had Time For
Even with all the incredible places we visited, there were still a couple of dreamy destinations we couldn’t squeeze into our itinerary but are definitely on our must-visit list for next time:
- Villefranche-sur-Mer: Just a few minutes by train or a quick hop on the bus from Nice, this colorful coastal town is said to be one of the most beautiful spots on the French Riviera. Picture postcard-perfect views of pastel-hued buildings cascading down to a serene, sparkling harbour. The pebble beach here, framed by lush green hills and turquoise waters, looks like something straight out of a travel magazine. It’s the perfect place for a relaxed beach day, lazy strolls through the old town, or enjoying seafood at a harbourside café. Everyone says it’s a must-do, and we’re already planning our next visit just to see this gem.
- Èze: Perched high on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean, this medieval village offers absolutely jaw-dropping views that people rave about. You can reach Èze via local bus or Uber from Nice, and many say the experience feels almost magical — from walking the narrow, cobblestone streets lined with artisan shops to exploring the Exotic Garden (Jardin Exotique d’Èze), which offers panoramic views of the sparkling sea below. The village is also home to the historic Château Eza, now a luxury hotel and restaurant, where you can dine with a view that feels straight out of a fairytale. It’s a spot we’re already dreaming of visiting next time we’re on the French Riviera.
- Menton: Known as the “Pearl of France,” Menton sits right near the Italian border and is famous for its colourful old town, gorgeous gardens, and citrus groves. The annual Lemon Festival (Fête du Citron) held every February is a spectacular event where the town comes alive with parades, displays, and art installations all themed around citrus. Even without the festival, the charming architecture and laid-back vibe make it sound like a perfect day trip.
- Saint-Paul-de-Vence: A dreamy hilltop village known for its artistic heritage and medieval charm. Strolling along its ancient stone walls, visiting art galleries, and enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding countryside sound like the ultimate serene experience. Many artists, including Picasso and Matisse, were inspired by this enchanting spot, and it’s easy to see why.
These beautiful places are just more reasons why the French Riviera has us dreaming of a return trip. They’re on the list for next time — and they should be on yours, too!
